Checks on heated windscreens and windows

The glass used on trains and trams - such as windscreens, front and side windows - must be approved according to strict international standards. When equipped with a heating circuit (anti-fog or anti-freeze), it is necessary to subject these components to accelerated ageing tests. This ensures the functionality and durability of the system over time.
Istituto Giordano's Low Voltage Laboratory performs these tests in accordance with the following standards:

• EN 15152 test accredited by ACCREDIA
• NF F 15-818
• Trenitalia Technical Specification No. 306931

Advanced test methodologies with EN 15152 and Trenitalia Technical Specification No. 306931

The glass is tested in a controlled environment (15 - 30 °C), supplied at its rated voltage. The test involves 250 heating and cooling cycles, each lasting 4 hours, for a total of 1000 hours. Each cycle includes:

• 90 minutes with an active heating system
• 150 minutes without a power supply

To ensure safety, an intelligent control system is in place that automatically interrupts the power supply if the internal temperature exceeds 60°C, restoring it below 40°C.

In this instance, the glass is subjected to continuous processing for 1000 hours within a temperature-controlled environment set at a range of 15 - 25°C. Following the conclusion of the test, rigorous optical evaluations and electrical safety tests are conducted to verify the integrity of the glass and its performance.
