Istituto Giordano obtains the Accreditation of Tests on Construction Products - AVCP 3: initial type tests

In Italy, according to the provisions of the relevant Ministries, laboratories that are notified in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 relating to CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS (CPR), have to be accredited by the National Agency ACCREDIA in order to keep their notification valid.

Istituto Giordano, Notified Body No. 0407 for a large number of product families, has worked for this goal with a significant effort in terms of both economic and human resources dedicated and maintained to support the accreditation of these activities.

The Audit for the extension was carried out by ACCREDIA inspectors from 24 to 28 October 2022 and on 16 February 2023 Istituto Giordano obtained the extension of the accreditation No. 0021L, according to the standard UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 for tests falling under System 3 (AVCP) of the CPR.

The investment was approached in a constructive spirit and with a view to continuous improvement.
It was therefore chosen to bring in accreditation:

• both test methods and the related harmonised technical specifications related to construction products that constitute the core business of the laboratory activity;
• both test methods that have a smaller market but that represent the spirit of multidisciplinarity of Istituto Giordano in order to guarantee to those companies, Italian and European ones, that have particular products for which there are few laboratories, a reliable, competent and now accredited reference.

This extension of accreditation No. 0021L involved a total of about 125 tests spread over the various laboratories and 5 locations, of which more than 90 were not yet accredited in the voluntary field.

The lists include both voluntary and notified tests according to Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 relating to CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS (CPR). It should be noted that tests notified under CPR are also accredited in the voluntary field.

This is certainly a strategic goal achieved by Istituto Giordano, which proposes itself as a laboratory able to offer the market a complete testing service and covering various standards/ technical specifications related to Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 on CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS (CPR).
 
What guarantees and benefits does the accreditation of the laboratory involve for customers?

• Accreditation can ensure that testing laboratories meet all requirements of standards for carrying out conformity assessment activities.
• Accreditation is the certification, by a body acting as guarantor super partes, of the competence and impartiality of testing laboratories.
• Laboratories verify the products and certify their compliance with voluntary and mandatory standards through testing activities.
• The accreditation of laboratories gives to test reports issued on the market, a high degree of reliability in terms of quality and safety of goods and services submitted to verification, and ensures their recognition on international markets.
